Our Magical New Year

Reblog, ReclaimingPGH

Recently, Reclaiming Pittsburgh hosted our annual community meeting to decide what magic we wanted to Work in 2020. This is a great opportunity for personal and community work that blossoms from a theme or story in mythology. The best part? Anyone can submit their idea!

After a potent experience I had at the Carnegie Science Center a couple months ago, I was struck by the healing wonders of mushrooms. I submitted a proposal with my feelings about how and why adding to the energy of mycelium networks would change all of the worlds… after some discussion and voting, it was chosen! I am delighted that others felt the same way about these transformative (and highly magical) creatures!

Here it is (you can also read the same copy of my vision on ReclaimingPGH’s website):

“Life depends on an extension of generosity.”

Fantastic Fungi: The Magic Beneath Us

As we learn more about the mysteries of mushrooms and expansive networks of mycelium, we discover that their natural way of Being serves BOTH the creature itself and our planet collectively: oyster mushrooms cleaning up oil spills (while reproducing at a rapid rate to the point of thriving); symbiotic fungi and tree seeds being crafted into shipping boxes (that can be composted into new trees and fresh life after use); mutant strains being cultured to eliminate invading termites and destructive pests (in turn creating safe spaces that support life) and more.

Our culture and planet is toxic, both require composting of a drastic nature. It’s our responsibility as earth-loving magic-workers to do something: but this undertaking must also nourish us personally as human beings that have only so much energy to give… or else exhaustion and hopelessness are imminent.

I believe that Mycelium is a natural Teacher with great technical and magical wisdom in the realms of: creating vast networks for action-oriented teamwork, serving the Collective while also nourishing the Self, transforming toxicity into resources for the future, and modeling resilience in ways we have yet to comprehend. These necessary skills can be channeled into our awareness if we choose to allow Them to guide us.

Healing change for our dying planet, decaying society, and personal baggage is possible if we consciously form an ally ship with the most resilient organism on this planet (that will survive no matter what) and allow them to co-facilitate this transition.

Our community seems to have sparked the attention of lots of new people! I am excited to meet other witches from around the area and transforming all of the worlds.

Are you also called to feed and channel the transformative wisdom of mycelium networks this year?

IG FINAL Launching into 2019

Teri Parsley Starnes and I will be hosting our second annual New Year’s Forecast on the first Sunday of 2019! I am thrilled to announce that I am now an affiliated astrologer of Starsdance Astrology and we are both excited to reveal the Work we have planned in the coming year during this webinar.

From our event page on Facebook:

A bold new year is approaching fast. The planets have big plans for January and there is great momentum available to achieve our goals in 2019. While the darkness of rage and despair may have dampened our resilience in 2018, this new cycle reignites our focus and hope: to face our challenges will be a great adventure. What stirs inside you now? What are you hoping to learn and what are you able to teach others? Do you dare to take healthy risks in a world of unknowns? What holds you back from making an impact? Our Willpower playfully erupts, we are ready to take action.

Astrology is a powerful tool for mindful magic. This webinar combines astrological forecasting with magical/spiritual intention to help launch our hopes and dreams for 2019. As activists and lovers of the world, we come together to envision collective and personal magic. Aurora and Teri will share the major astrological influences of 2019, with a look towards the important transits of 2020. Participants will be invited to ask questions and share insights for the coming year. All levels of astrological and magical knowledge are welcome. Beginners are encouraged!

Teri and Aurora plan to offer continuing workshops throughout 2019 to support the intention discussed in this webinar. Get a start on this magic by attending.

Thanksgiving is a Lie

Mundane Magic

Today, as many white people celebrate the colonial Thanksgiving, I am choosing to dedicate the center of my table to the native tribes whose land we stole.

Today, our home cooked meal centers the memories of the Osage tribe and Haudenosauneega Confederacy, who were violently removed from their lands: murdered by my greedy ancestors with narrow minds and cold hearts.

Today, I refuse to participate in any narrative about a “Thanksgiving™” that supports the belief that pilgrims were peaceful or that this day is anything other than white-washing the truth.

Today, I acknowledge my privilege, which has allowed me the luxury of forgetting the real history of the United States for most of my life.

Today, I mourn for those who died on foot at gun point as they were forced to “relocate.”

Today, I commit to saying their names aloud, learning their correct pronunciation and participating in this dark conversation with family members who may wonder why we have invited these names and bones to dinner.

Today, I choose what ancestor I am becoming by serving the memory of these tribes as we raise our glasses at this table and express gratitude for the animals and crops that gave their lives for us to live.

ReclaimingPGH’s Spring Ritual

Events

31793465_1711761912224242_858502922395189248_n

Join us, the witches of ReclaimingPGH, on Saturday, May 12th from 6:30 – 9:00pm in Swissvale area of Pittsburgh, PA for our Spring Ritual!

Our intention: “Like flowers, we unfold and nourish community.”

ReclaimingPGH is the Pittsburgh chapter of Reclaiming witchcraft. For the 2018 cycle, our local community voted to explore the theme of bees during our four seasonal rituals scheduled for this year. The Ritual Planning Cell of ReclaimingPGH has come together to brainstorm, organize and facilitate this evening of nourishing magic.

We are calling to all those who would like to experience a pagan ritual done Reclaiming-style to join us!

What can you expect from a Reclaiming ritual?

Our sacred gatherings are opportunities for introspection, self-discovery, shifting energy and cultivating a deep connection with others. Reclaiming Rituals are: Ecstatic (high energy that is pleasurable), Improvisational (without a script and spontaneous), an Ensemble (non-hierarchical where many witches share roles to make magic like music), Inspired (discovering and celebrating new ways to experience the sacred in our world today) and Organic (embracing the wild nature of energy that is alive and ever-changing.) For more information about Reclaiming style rituals, see A Working Definition of Reclaiming by Starhawk.

We believe that everyone that shows up is a vital part of the magic created by the group and strive to be radically inclusive. This is not ritual theater: you will be invited to participate as you feel called! Please bring a fresh flower/s for the altar, a water bottle, and a snack for sharing (no shellfish or peanut products: severe allergies).

For up to date information about this event and request the address of the venue, please visit the ReclaimingPGH Spring Ritual event page on Facebook.
